6:00-9:00

Advent is a time of expectation and waiting for the coming celebration of the Nativity of Jesus. Please join The Saint James Center for Spiritual Development for an Advent Quiet Evening on December 8th beginning at 6:00. Our guest presenter will be The Rev. Dr. Elizabeth (Liz) J. Canham. A light supper (soup and salad) will be served beginning at 6:00 in the conference room. We will then move to the church where Liz will deliver two meditations interspersed with time for silent prayer and reflection. The evening will end by 8:45 with prayer.

Dr. Canham founded and served ten years as Executive Director for Stillpoint Ministries, an organization facilitating retreats, workshops, spiritual direction and training for retreat leaders.  In addition to serving parishes in the UK and USA, she worked on the Diocesan staff in Western North Carolina.  She also directed the retreat ministry for a Benedictine monastery in South Carolina where she lived as a monastic oblate.  She now devotes her time to writing, teaching and leading retreats/workshops internationally in many ecumenical settings.

Dr. Canham is an author, retreat leader, spiritual director, and a former seminary professor.  Her books include Pilgrimage to Priesthood, Heart Whispers, Journaling with Jeremiah, Praying the Bible, and  A Table of Delight.  Her newest book Ask The Animals was published in October of 2006.

You can sign up by sending an email to sjretreats@hughes.net or by placing your name on the sign up list in the church hallway. We will accept a donation at the door to cover the cost of the meal.
